Audiology Diagnostics

Audiology Diagnostics Overview

The highly complex architecture of auditory problems associated with the ear requires various testing for an accurate diagnosis. There are several tests an audiologist may perform to identify the cause and degree of hearing loss and establish a strategy designed for the individual to solve the problem. At Hillcroft Physicians, we employ state-of-the-art equipment and diagnostic techniques.

Audiology problems can affect a patient’s hearing, balance, or tinnitus, which leads to ringing in the ears. The Providers at Hillcroft Physicians offer preliminary diagnostic evaluations for hearing loss due to problems with the ear canal, middle ear, or eardrum.

A typical hearing test will take about 15 to 30 minutes. The test is done by playing a series of tones to determine hearing loss. A physical examination will also be conducted by using a special instrument called an otoscope that enables doctors to look inside the ear canal.
What are common problems that cause hearing loss?
Ear infection & allergies commonly can cause hearing loss by excess fluid in the ears by creating pressure, sometimes may have earache too.
Why is it important to be examined when experiencing hearing problems or pain?
As with any medical problem that causes pain or reduces the perception of your senses, ignoring a problem often makes it worse. See one of our providers as soon as you feel any loss of hearing or pain.
